Every year on August 12th, the world comes together to celebrate International Youth Day, a moment to honor the energy, creativity, and leadership of young people. This years’ theme; Local Youth Action for SDGs and Beyond, highlights the unique role of youth in translating global ambitions into community-driven realities. At Meg Wah (My Earth), we believe that the fight for environmental sustainability depends on empowering youth with the knowledge and tools to take action. In an era where climate change, biodiversity loss, and environmental degradation are urgent realities, young voices have become a driving force for change.
Over the past year, Meg Wah has worked side-by-side with passionate young environmental ambassadors, equipping them with skills in GIS technology, environmental mapping, and community restoration. Together, we have identified and mapped flood-prone areas, and planted over 200 flood-resistant trees in the Bokwai community, helping protect lives and restore ecosystems through the Eco-Tech Climate Innovators Project. These actions are more than conservation efforts, they are proof that when youth are empowered, they become powerful agents of transformation, capable of inspiring their peers and influencing decision-makers. We have worked with youth through our yearly flagship program, ECOKIDS which is always executed in different Regions of Cameroon to raise young climate ambassadors.
On this International Youth Day, we celebrate the courage, innovation, and resilience of the young people who are shaping a greener, more sustainable future. As a conservation organization, we celebrate our team for leading these projects and we remain committed to creating spaces where youth can learn, lead, and leave a lasting positive impact on their environment. As we invest in the next generation today, we are securing a future where people and nature can thrive
