In celebration of the International Day of Biological Diversity on May 22, 2025, Meg Wah (My Earth) launched a vibrant and educational awareness campaign at Faith Bilingual Academy Nursery and Primary School in Bomaka. The initiative, aimed at Classes 4 and 5, focused on instilling a deep appreciation for biodiversity and the urgent need to protect endangered species. Through an engaging sensitization talk, pupils learned about the ecological importance of wildlife, with a spotlight on iconic and vulnerable species such as the chimpanzee, Cameroon francolin, and African elephant.
The campaign sparked creativity and emotional connection. Pupils took part in various artistic activities designed to help them express their newfound understanding of biodiversity. From drawings of species to heartfelt poems, rhythm and singing performances, each expression reflected the children’s personal engagement with nature and their growing awareness of conservation issues through art. Best pupil in each activity was awarded a price.
Biodiversity is a variety of all living things on Earth like animals, plants, fungi, and even tiny microbes and the places they live. It includes everything from the smallest insect to the biggest whale, and all the different ecosystems, like forests, oceans, and deserts. The theme of the International Day of Biological Diversity Day 2025 is dubbed, ‘‘Harmony with Nature and Sustainable Development’’ which highlights the urgent need to reconnect humanity with the natural world and promote sustainable development. The day aimed to raise awareness about biodiversity issues, promote global action for conservation and encourage sustainable use of natural resources.
The theme for this year resonates with Meg Wah’s vision of humans living in harmony with nature. Together, we can be part of the plan by raising awareness of reviving environmental consciousness for sustainable development in our communities. We believe this interactive and educational experience will not only enrich the pupil’s knowledge but also nurture a sense of environmental responsibility from a young age.
We thank the management of Faith Bilingual Academy Nursery and Primary School Bomaka for welcoming the initiative.
