As part of activities to commemorate World Environment Day 2025, Meg Wah (My Earth), in collaboration with the South West Regional Delegation of the Ministry of Environment, Protection of Nature and Sustainable Development (MINEPDED-SW) and other environmental civil society organizations, organized an impactful Eco Walk in Buea. The walk, which stretched from Checkpoint to Mile 17, aimed at raising awareness among residents and commuters on the pressing issue of plastic pollution. Participants carried placards and shared educational messages on the harmful effects of plastic waste on our environment, health, and marine ecosystems.
Following the walk, participants converged at the Mile 17 bus station for a community cleanup campaign. Volunteers, government stakeholders, and environmental advocates remove plastic waste and other litter from the area. This collaborative effort served not only to improve the cleanliness of the busy transport hub but also to highlight the power of collective community action in combating pollution and promoting a cleaner, healthier living environment for all.
This year’s World Environment Day theme, “Ending Plastic Pollution,” served as a powerful call to action. Meg Wah (My Earth) remains dedicated to engaging communities, empowering youth, and driving grassroots environmental change in the South West Region and beyond. Through such partnerships and hands-on activities, the organization continues to amplify the message that every small action counts in building a sustainable and plastic-free future.
